 "Something Ready to Break" 2009-11-15
By camperdave (Colorado)
After first trying this product my 1G ipod touch would not charge with either the AC or car adapter. The USB plug is flimsy, and cheaply made. I am a little afraid that it will break something if I use it, however it will charge my ipod when connected to a computer. I notice when my ipod is plugged into the USB on my computer and the audio jack plugged into speakers there is a faint buzzing sound, like there is a poor connection somewhere. This does not happen when plugged in with the official apple ipod usb connector. ...and can you believe it,? all this cool stuff, for only 3 bucks !!!

This Is Genius
Control your Genius. Or leave it to its own devices. Either way, Genius explores your library and finds songs that go great together.

Genius Playlists
Say you have one song you really love and want to hear other tracks that go great with it. A few clicks on iPod nano, and Genius uses that song to find other songs in your library and makes a Genius playlist for you. You can listen to the playlist right away, save it for later, or even refresh and give it another go. Count on Genius to create combinations you wouldn't have thought of yourself.

Genius Mixes
Now there's another great way to get a customized set of songs on iPod nano--have Genius do all the work. Introducing Genius Mixes. All you do is sync your iPod nano to iTunes, and Genius automatically searches your library and finds songs that sound great together to create up to 12 Genius Mixes. These mixes are like channels programmed entirely with your music. It's a great way to rediscover songs you haven't listened to in forever, and some you even forgot you had.

Go with the Cover Flow
View your album art in Cover Flow for a faster way to find the song you want to hear. Or just press and hold the center button to flip the album cover art over so you can see the songs. When you find the right song, press the center button to add it to your on-the-go playlist.

Shake to Shuffle Your Music
Hear songs in a totally random way. Just turn on Shake to Shuffle, then give iPod nano a shake and it shuffles to a different song in your music library. You never know what iPod nano will spin for you next.

Don't Just Listen to the Radio, Pause it and Tag it, Too
The new FM tuner lets you see the names of songs and artists. And two amazing features--iTunes Tagging and Live Pause--make listening to the radio nothing like listening to the radio.

FM Radio--it Gives You Yet Another Way to Rock
There's always something great on the FM dial. And now the FM tuner lets you hear your favorite morning shows on your commute and discover new music while you work out. It even shows you what and who you're listening to.1

With Live Pause, You'll Never Miss a Beat
Say you need to take a quick break from listening to your favorite radio station. iPod nano lets you pause it with a click. Another click and you're listening to your station again. You can even rewind as far back as 15 minutes, then fast-forward to catch up to the live broadcast.

iTunes Tagging--the New-Fashioned Way to Discover Music
It's quite a dilemma: You're listening to the radio and you hear a song you like, but when you go to iTunes, you can't remember the name or even who sings it. Enter iTunes Tagging. Now, you can use the Click Wheel on iPod nano to tag the song. iTunes creates a list of all your tagged songs so you can easily preview or purchase them when you sync iPod nano to iTunes.

VoiceOver--the Talk of the Music World
VoiceOver tells you the title and artist of the songs you listen to. And does it so seamlessly, you'll be surprised at how brilliant it is.

Let's Talk VoiceOver
What if you're listening to a song and want to know the title or the artist? Just use the Click Wheel or the controls on the optional Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic and VoiceOver tells you the song name and who's performing it without interrupting your music. So you're never distracted from your ride or run by looking down at your screen.

The nano now includes an FM radio with iTunes Tagging and Live Pause functions.

Capture a thought, a reminder, a class lecture, or any audio recording you want with Voice Memos.

The new Pedometer counts every step you take. Or add Nike+ shoes and a Nike + iPod Sport Kit for the perfect workout partner.

How it Works
You'll notice how smoothly and easily VoiceOver works. A lot of thought went into creating an iPod nano that not only talks, but says the right things. It all begins with iTunes and its seamless integration with iPod nano. First, iTunes reads your song information, then uses the VoiceOver Kit to generate the announcements for the songs, artists, and playlists. Just sync your iPod nano to your computer and it really speaks to you.

It Speaks Multiple Languages
Your music library has songs from all over the world--a love song from France, a bolero from Spain, a pop tune from Japan. Luckily, VoiceOver speaks fluent song.

iTunes selects the language and best voice for your song titles and artist names. It looks at song data, like the title, artist, and album information, then applies intelligent algorithms to choose the right language. For example, iTunes recognizes the song "Ya Viene el Sol by Ozomatli as a Spanish song, so your iPod nano will automatically speak that song title and artist in Spanish. If you prefer to hear that information spoken in another language, you can change the designated VoiceOver language for that song in iTunes.

Hit the Ground Running--Or Walking
With the Nike + iPod Sport Kit (sold separately) and a built-in pedometer to help keep you motivated and track your fitness progress, iPod nano makes working out less routine.

Step it up with the New Pedometer
You take your iPod nano with you everywhere. Why not use it to stay fit? iPod nano now doubles as a Pedometer. It uses the built-in accelerometer to keep track of your steps and help you meet your fitness goals. You can create a daily step goal or set it to Always On so it counts all the steps you take, all the time. Which makes iPod nano the ideal exercise partner.

Rock and Run
Your shoes and your iPod nano team up to maximize your run. See the minutes tick by. Watch the miles unfold. Hear real-time voice feedback. All to your favorite music, including your chosen Power Song--that one song that always gets you through the home stretch.

Rock the Gym
Take Nike + iPod to the gym and minute by minute, mile by mile, you're motivated by more than music. Connect your iPod nano to a Nike + iPod compatible cardio machine. Record your pace, time, and distance as you work out. With iPod nano, every trip to the gym becomes a new challenge.

Sync
When you're finished, connect your iPod nano to your Mac or PC. iTunes automatically sends your workout data to nikeplus.com. Every workout and every run is there, ready for you to review. Get pumped for your next run with recommended challenges, custom training programs, and maps of new routes to try. Or share motivation with runners across the world.

Note to Self: Voice Memos Are Here
The built-in mic lets you capture a thought, a reminder, a class lecture, or any audio recording you want with Voice Memos.

iTunes: Your Greatest Hits
It's even easier to organize, browse, grow, and share your digital music and video collection with the new iTunes. And now you can save items with a wish list and enjoy iTunes extras--bonus features on select albums and movies--like lyrics, photos, interviews, and behind-the-scenes media.

Not much to say, as this product is very simple- it charges! And for that it works great. An indicator light lets you know it's charging. I used it for a sony x series walkman. It seems it works for any MP3 player. It's definitley worth your $4.00!

"Inexpensive but useful IPod accessory" 2009-10-27
By Powerman (NY)
The quality of this unit is acceptable, but the usefulness is excellent. The price is even better than that! It works with both my IPod Nano and Shuffle. No need to fire up my computer anymore; just plug this unit into the wall and plug the IPod USB into this unit. There's even an LED to tell you that power is available. This is helpful if the outlet is on a switch and you're not sure of power is available or not. Overall well worth the low price...

 "Great charger!" 2009-10-20
By Traci A. Hannah (USA)
I am an Apple addict. I have two macbooks, iphones, ipod and a shuffle. I will never understand how Apple can make such great products and then flake on chargers, earbuds, etc. When I received the shuffle as a gift I was thrilled with the size and the product in general; however, having to use a USB charger all the time quickly became irritating. I have two USB ports on my computer and between printers, speakers and external hard drives, the last thing I needed was one more product that not only used a USB port to charge, but REQUIRED it! This adapter is perfect! Again, people claimed they had problems with their shuffle frying after using this, but I have had no problems. This adapter came in a bundle package I purchased and I must say, I use this adapter the most! The price was also a huge factor in purchase. Anyone who has purchased adapters or any kind directly from Apple know how expensive they can be - this is a great product at a great price.

 "Packs a punch" 2009-11-24
By Thomas C. Poulin
This is my third iPod, the others being a 40GB classic (hard drive model) and an 8GB 2g Nano (my wife's). I chose the Nano because I wanted something small and vibration tolerant that I could listen to while active (doing chores, exercising, etc.).

The Good:

* Simple, sleek, and cool--worthy of the Apple name.

* Small size and relatively large display.

* Navigation is straightforward, and syncing through iTunes is simple.

* The radio feature with live pause is great. Now when I'm interrupted I can just pause and resume without missing the broadcast.

* The video camera is a nice addition. As long as you realize it's more about convenience than quality you should be satisfied. On the Mac, your videos show up in iPhoto once you've enabled the Nano for disk use.

* The silver color coordinates nicely with aluminum iMacs.

The Bad:

* I want a dedicated volume control. Yes, I know this would interrupt Apple's minimalist design philosophy, but some functions deserve their own physical controls. There are times when the scroll wheel controls other functions (menu navigation, traversing saved radio stations) and thus you can't directly, immediately change the volume, which I find annoying. Instead, I have to pause the unit first or navigate to "Now Playing", which is a hassle.

* The Apple earbuds aren't going to win any audiophile awards. Their sound is pretty lousy, actually, but they're fine for listening when I'm engaged in an active task and don't have my full attention turned to listening.

* It doesn't charge from certain older iPod accessories. I have a JBL Soundstage and an iHome under-counter player, and neither can charge/control the Nano. Apparently they use the Firewire rather than USB interface internally, which newer iPods don't support this anymore. You can still play the iPod through the devices though.

* It's too easy to accidentally cover the camera lens when taking a video. I've found holding the Nano at the opposite end or along the edges works best, but it's a bit awkward due to the small size of the device.

* VoiceOver is an interesting feature, but I turned it off because it kept getting unintentionally triggered when I scanned forward/back in a track (mostly for podcasts).

* 16MB is probably enough for most people, but I have a large music collection and would like a larger memory option. Unfortunately this means moving to a bulkier model (the Touch or Classic).

"Great, but could be better." 2009-11-24

Love this iPod. It's a great buy.Apple iPod nano 16 GB Black (5th Generation) NEWEST MODEL

Pros: Extremely small. Just a little longer than an Altoids tin, and about as thick as a 3.5in floppy. 16G is plenty for what I need to be portable. I use this iPod primarily in my car, and it is vastly superior to the radio. Easy to use, as the iPods are made to be. No long learning curve on operation.

Cons: I'm not sure as to the necessity of the video on this. 16G isn't much if you plan to use your iPod for movies. Maybe a little too small; I have large hands, and this iPod feels a bit like a toy. it is nearly uncomfortable to hold, due to its small size.

All in all, I say: If you want this as an interim device to take jogging, or you need an iPod that you can slip in the pocket of tight jeans, get this one. If you want an iPod to store a ton of stuff, or you plan to be using it for video or as a hand-held device often, get an iPod.Apple iPod classic 160 GB Black (7th Generation) NEWEST MODEL

That's my 2 cents. The rest of the check is on you.

"Buggiest piece of junk I've ever had" 2009-11-28
By T. Duffy
This thing is the buggiest piece of electronic junk I've ever owned or used. Almost every time I sync it it gets stuck at the end and there's no way to turn it off, much less to remove the battery - a very stupid design from a company that prides itself to an embarrassing extent on design. I have to let the battery run out overnight, then dock it for a while, then after a while it's usable again (so far).

It also not infrequently skips from the middle of a piece to the next, and often just stops and displays a bizarre screen which seems to be saying, "I'm dying." Sometimes it stops for no reason and displays a more innocuous screen, but it's the same refusal to function. I've put a lot of time into cataloguing and organizing my classical music in iTunes and I'm afraid that, even if I can get it fixed, I'll have to spend a lot more time rebuilding a music library on a highly unreliable piece of junk. I'm seriously considering seeing how high I can throw it and enjoying the spectacle when it hits the pavement.

 "Difficult" 2009-11-27
By Michelle Thompson (Fl, USA)
I don't know if this is a shared problem or just with this IPod. I had to try many times to load my library from Lime wire to iTunes even though I had the specific directions. Then it took me forever to get the IPod to load my music. When it did it started loading the entire library instead of the playlist. Again I followed the directions to the letter. It didn't help that the apple site was almost completely down for three days. I cancelled the download and it absolutely refused to download the playlist. I needed the music ASAP so I attempted to download the entire playlist again and it wouldn't do it. I attempted it at least five times before contacting Apple. The service rep maddeningly took me through the same simple five steps. Twice. He then informed me that the IPod was not compatible with my music library. Apple promotes itself as being compatible with shared p2p music. On a hunch I deleted the entire library, reloaded it and the IPod accepted it. There is always the possibility it was a problem with ITunes. Definitely look up other reviews on it to be sure. And as always, if it doesn't work. Delete it and start from the beginning.

"Second One for My Family" 2009-11-24
By W. Howsley (Plano, TX)
I've owned a 30G iPod Classic for about two years and enjoyed it from the first day that I received it as a gift. My wife had tried a competing brand of MP3 player but found it ungainly to use, both in adding new selections and because of poor capacity. I bought the 120G Classic for her as a birthday present and I don't believe that she will exceed the capacity of this little marvel. Oh, by the way, I'm 73 years old and my wife is 70. As far as the machine is concerned, the sound is excellent and the ease of adding selections and overall use is exceptional. Kudos to Mr. Jobs and his team.

"holy cow, that's a lot of memory!" 2009-11-23
By austinguy (texas)
upgraded from the itty bitty 2GB nano to this 120GB beast with the intention of putting my entire music collection on it and selling my CDs for some extra cash. well... i've put every CD i own, some i've borrowed, a few movies, and the several hundred songs i've downloaded over the years. and let me tell ya... i will not be running out of room on this ipod anytime soon. 120GB is an INSANE amount of space!!! this may very well be my last ipod purchase. not because i'm dissatisfied in any way... but because i don't see myself ever needing additional memory in the near future! seriously, if you've got similar plans of making your entire music collection portable, i would definitely recommend investing in this piece of hardware. it's like having a cineplex and record store in your pocket. rock on!
