"Not the product, but Ace" 2009-12-22
By Consumer in AZ
Since you apparently can't leave seller feedback when an order is canceled, I'm putting this comment here. This was a very unsatisfactory experience. I ordered this as a Christmas gift 12 days in advance. The only thing I received after a week of waiting was Amazon's automated response. I sent an email to the seller asking about the status and it took two days for them to tell me it hadn't shipped yet. The customer service rep said she was flagging it to make sure it shipped within 24 hours. It was now five days till Christmas and I questioned whether it would make it cross country in time. I also mentioned that the item showed only 1 in stock on Amazon (amazingly, it now shows 2) and I was concerned that it might be out of stock. A few hours later, I received another email saying that it was indeed out of stock and would not be shipping.
Apparently if they have your item, they ship it promptly. If they don't have it, you'll never know unless you follow up yourself. I will never order anything from Ace again.
"Top notch sound quality but not durable." 2009-11-17
By J. Gao (Kearny, NJ)
The wire that connects the audio elements became brittle when weather got cold. After two year of light use during commute, it developed what seems to be a loss wire connection in one of the buds.
The factory warranty is short (two years), once out of warranty you need to pay a hefty 109 dollar for service. Shure really should give it a longer warranty coverage, given the price tag on those headphones.
"Not bad" 2009-08-01
By Andris Stepanuks (Upper Kedron, QLD Australia)
I own Etymotic er6 and I needed a 2nd pair of earphones. so I thought I w ill experiment wit a different brand of isolators.
My first impression of Shure e4 wasn't very good. The fit was bad, sound was average and they wouldn't stay in. Turns out, they had to be inserted differently to Etymotics. Once I learned how to insert them (with the pointy bits up), they were amazing. Bass was incredible, and sound was so life like.
My only complaint is the weight and thickness of the cord. In comparison to Etymotics, the cord is a monster.
"Good Sound, Wire Issue" 2009-05-29
By R. Giuliani (Chicago, IL)
Did a lot of research (and owned a pair of Shures previously) before buying these. Very happy with the fit and the sound quality, although the whole 'loop the wire over the top of the ear thing' never ever stayed in place for me. Not comfortable anyway.
After five months of almost daily use I'm having to return these for repair/replacement. I think there's a wire issue by the plug that causes intermittent static, poor sound or no sound in the right ear bud. Hopefully wire fragility is not a common problem with these plugs.
"Wire sheath becomes brittle with age." 2009-04-11
By L. Humbird (Portland, OR USA)
I bought a pair of Shure e4c earphones 12 months ago for use with my iPhone. Naturally they've gotten daily use since then. The sound quality is most excellent, and the noise isolation from the foam fittings (the black ones) is outstanding.
However I've noticed that the cord's plastic sheath - from the Y-split to the drivers - has become cracked, first on both the left side, and then on the right. This is exposing the inner wires to the elements, and weakening the cord's resistance to everyday stress. This is really bad, as I'm sure this will eventually cause the wiring to fail - probably in the next 12 months.
Earphones of this quality (and cost) should not have this kind of defect.
